Sabbing the Balcombe Estate

From our friends in Brighton Hunt Sabs:

‘We started off the day looking for The Southdown and Eridge Hunt but when there was no sign of them we went to join the other saboteurs at The Balcombe Estate where the C&H were meeting.

When we arrived the hunt were already out but we soon found them going backwards and forwards through a wood, strange behavior for trail hunters, surely they weren’t looking for the scent of the fox that had been spotted darting away…. [note from rabble – fox hunting with hounds is illegal so hunters pretend to be only trail hunting]

We then moved down into the wood so we could keep up with the hunt if they moved away. However, in the woods we were met with a group of hunt boys and as we had lots of new saboteurs out we weren’t able to just push our way through like normal. The police were also reverting back to their normal hunt security role by joining in pushing us back towards the footpath (trespass is not a criminal offense so it should be nothing to do with the police).

The footpath is actually a public road so once back on it we found that South Coast and West Sussex Hunt Saboteur’s Landrovers were there and eager to give us a lift round to where we thought the hunt were headed.

However, a hunt supporter in a three hole balaclava had parked his Landrover across the road. Eventually the police told him to move or they would arrest him but he then got on the phone to someone to ask what to do. It seems that they gave him permission to move so he did.

We only got a couple of hundred meters before the next vehicle blocked us in though. This guy was some idiot in his work van.

We then seemed to spend the rest of the day tying up the hunt boys. Luckily there were other saboteurs in the field following the hunt so it was a useful role for us to keep them occupied so the others could keep on the hunt but it felt very strange to not be in the field much.

We did catch up with the hunt at the end of the day as they did their walk of shame back to the meet, where we also met up with the saboteurs that had been in the field.

Then all that was left was to eat the cake and head home.

We had loads of people out on for this hit but if you want to come out just get in touch. Maybe one day we’ll be able to get two Landrovers of Brighton Saboteurs out!’
