People’s Defense Forces (HPG) Press Office has released a statement detailing the action conducted by guerrillas against Mermer Gendarmerie outpost located on Amed-Lice road at 21:15 yesterday evening.

Accordingly, the sabotage action by guerrillas targeted the outpost while there were a total of 60 soldiers in it, in addition to a 20-person group of gendarmerie special operation team deployed for military operation.

A vehicle heavily laden with explosives was detonated between two emplacements in the outpost, as a result of which the front building administrative-control building, cafeteria, officers’ mess and dormitory of the outpost were destroyed completely.

3 armored vehicles and 1 panzer outside the station were also destroyed in the explosion after which guerrillas hit the outpost with weapons. At least 28 soldiers were verified killed and 32 others got wounded in the action. Yet, local sources report over 30 dead and only 5 soldiers left alive after the explosion.

HPG pointed out that the action was conducted by Martyr Şevger Team of Revenge in response to the attacks on martyrs’ cemeteries in Amed, and in memory of Commander Çiyager Batman and combatants martyred alongside him in Amed’s Sur district and civilian martyrs of Sur and Cizre.

HPG refuted Turkish media reports of 3 dead and 24 wounded among the soldiers in the outpost, stressing that these reports aimed to hide the truth.

The statement added that 2 Cobra helicopters of the Turkish army shelled the Kerwas village in Amed’s Lice district at 13:00 on 23 March.
