Greece: Angeliki Spyropoulou – With No Trace of Remorse (en/es)

angeliki

This experience is the starter of the development on both a political and a personal level. Imprisonment is an almost inevitable experience for anyone who has decided to join the armed struggle. But the question, as in every experience, is whether and how to take advantage of it.

The birth of the prison has always been built upon cultivation and perpetuation of validation of submission of those who do not conform to the predefined standards of society. However, there are some people whose desire for freedom burns their hearts in a way that does not allow them to accept the role imposed on them as part of the prison automation, even for a single moment during their imprisonment. When it comes to these people, prison fails miserably in its purpose, and despite the walls and bars that stand around them capturing their bodies, they themselves remain rebellious and actually free. Neither souls nor spirits fit in cages.

“Sin rastro de remordimiento”

Estas experiencias son la levadura de la evolución, tanto en el plano político como en lo personal. El tránsito a la prisión es una experiencia casi inevitable para cualquier persona que ha decidido pasar a la lucha armada. Pero la pregunta, como con cualquier experiencia, es si aprovecharla y cómo aprovecharla.

Greek prisons: CCF member Gerasimos Tsakalos has been on hunger strike since 14/9, in solidarity with the struggle of Evi Statiri

‘For, if we don’t die for each other, we are already dead’
[verse adapted from a poem by Tasos Livaditis]

On Tuesday, September 29th, it became known that anarchist prisoner Gerasimos Tsakalos has undertaken a hunger strike since September 14th 2015, standing by the side of his life companion Evi Statiri from the very first moment she initiated her hunger strike. For reasons of his own, Gerasimos chose not to publicise this fact earlier. It must be reminded that his body has not had time to fully recover from the exhaustive hunger strike that he recently carried out along with the rest of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire imprisoned members and anarchist captive Angeliki Spyropoulou.

Hunger strikes in Greek prisons – A brief chronicle of the past few days

first

While the Greek society is watching the post-election fables of the SYRIZA-ANEL coalition government in an almost dormant state, incarcerated anarchists and combative prisoners in the galleys of democracy have once again decided to clash with the Power and its laws, using hunger strike and abstention from prison food as weapons of their struggle.
