Oct. 2: ISIS Assault Repelled by the Defense Units Near Mount Abd Al-Aziz, Clashes With Al-Nusra In Northern Aleppo

SHEIKH MAQSOOD, Aleppo (October 2, 2015) – Militants from the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al Nusra Front launched an offensive against the Sheikh Maqsood Neighborhood in the north of the city of Aleppo October 1st. Exercising a great amount of resistance, combined forces of the People’s/Women’s Defense Units (YPG/YPJ) have been able to defend their fighting positions as well as inflicting severe blows to the enemy forces by leading numerous counter attacks.

On October 1 in north Aleppo, multiple confrontations between the Defense Units and terrorist groups took place at 10 am near the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood. As a result of the clashes there, two pick-up vehicles of the enemy forces, of which one armed, were destroyed; terrorists’ dead or wounded could not immediately be verified.

Conducting counter-offensive, the Defense Units moved to carry out a range of attacks targeting multiple enemy units’ staging areas on the road to Jandol and Bostan Pasha. During this process, several enemy hide out locations were aimed near Bostan Pasha Border and the village Jandol where 3 enemy vehicles were damaged in effect. Enemy forces’ possible casualty numbers are yet to be confirmed.

Separately en route to Kastella, the Defense Units advanced an assault operation against a group of the terrorists preparing for attacks, killed 4 elements of the enemy fighters.

JAZIRA, Hasakah – In the early hours of October 2 on the northwestern slopes of the Mt. Kezwan (Abd al-Aziz), the Daesh (ISIS / ISIL) terrorists launched a number of attacks on the villages of Bedi, Kharra, Khaaraa, Til Hamam and Jafre. This attempt is understood to be the group’s most violent attack since August 2015 attempts during Ramadan to occupy the city of Hasakah, which were defeated and the city fully liberated from their occupation. Facing this well, long prepared attack of the enemy, the Defense Units have decisively resisted and caused them to suffer important blows.

There, the Daesh elements tried to carry out two suicide operations first by deploying a VBIED near the wheat silos in the village of Kharra and then a motorcycle-borne IED around the village of Til Hamam. Yet, the Defense Units were able to target and divert the two elements from a fair long distance. Another group of the terrorists who desired to lead a second course of fight on the mentioned villages were thwarted by the Defense Units, most of the attacking vanguard were eventually eliminated.

Near the Bedi-Alya square, the Defense Units were successfully able to destroy an APC of the Daesh terrorists, killing 7 of their fighters. Three members of the Defense Units were martyred in action over the course of that battle.

For the fight in the village of Kharra at least 10 enemy casualties were discovered on the battle grounds, similarly 11 of the attackers’ dead around the village of Khaaraa. Four combatants of the Defense Units were martyred in action after a heroic fight in place near that location.

Elsewhere on the same frontline, in an ongoing range of conflicts, at least 28 assailants so far have been confirmed killed, another APC, a VBIED and a motorbike also destroyed. Additional details will follow once operationally possible.

Relation With the Coalition Strong Despite Misleading Information: General Command

ROJAVA, Syria (October 2, 2015) – It has been almost a year since active relation and coordination were formed between the People’s Defense Units (YPG) and the Anti-ISIS International Coalition. This well-coordinated communication began from the historic resistance in Kobani, late 2014, and reached its highest level of collaboration with liberation of the city of Tal Abyad (Gire Spi) in June 2015. During the course of this cooperation, together, we have managed to deal heaviest blows to the Daesh (ISIS) and realize great victories against the terrorist group. That said, this coordination will endure closer than before.

Yet some sides are trying to distort the collaboration between the YPG and the Coalition, the same partnership that has dramatically helped Rojava, northern Syria, to recover peace and stability despite uncertain regional circumstances, and benefitted the people to safely return back to their occupied lands in Kobani, Tal Abyad and elsewhere in Rojava after removal of ISIS’ brutality there. Once again, the relation, coordination and two-sided support between the People’s Defense Units and the US-led coalition will not simply continue but emerge stronger against committed enemy, the Daesh terrorists.
