(Oakwood prison rooftop protest, November 2013)
Six criminals have been jailed over a riot which caused £170,000-worth of damage at Britain’s biggest jail.
The crooks smashed up their wing at the privately-run HMP Oakwood, near Wolverhampton, in January last year.
Staff were forced to flee as they trashed TVs, furnishings, pool tables and washing machines.
G4S, which runs the jail, said at the time that up to 20 prisoners were involved in the nine-hour rampage, which left one inmate slightly hurt.
But a prison officer sent in to help tackle the violence later told the BBC it had been a “full-scale riot” involving many more offenders.
Four of the six sentenced for their roles in the violence are still serving prisoners and the other two have been sent back to jail.
The 1,600-offender capacity HMP Oakwood has suffered a string of problems since it opened in 2012, including a seven-hour rooftop protest in November 2013.
