Southwark Council now have an Interim Possession Order for 69-76 Chartridge on the Aylesbury Estate. It becomes illegal for anyone to ‘trespass’ in those eight flats after 14.55 tomorrow. The police may turn up at this time to enforce it.
We are now in occupation of the disused council offices at the base of Chiltern house on the corner of Albany Road and Portland Street (SE17).
These offices used to be the headquarters of Southwark’s regeneration and planning departments, and therefore the very place where they brewed their plans for the social cleansing that has been taking place since then. We wander what dodgy deals were done within these walls.
We are currently tidying and cleaning our new space. Thank you to everyone who is helping. Its a big building, so we will be organising all kinds of activities in it. There is level, ground floor, access so this will make it easier for everyone – including local residents – to use the reclaimed space.
Our first event is a legal workshop this evening from 19.00-20.00: a chance to find out what your rights are and the legalities of participating in occupations like this.
See you soon,
The Occupiers
