Today we saw the sentencing of 13 anti fascists participating in the protests against the now defunct Swede’s Party in September 2014.
Most of the sentences handed out is relating to participation in a riot, an event the prosecution claimed to be two separate ones as, according to them, the situation calmed down between the disturbances. This allows them to prosecute twice for the same accusation and therefore plead for longer sentences and steeper fines.
About 12 000 people found themselves in Kungsträdgården, central of Stockholm, during the protest two weeks before the Swedish Election. When the Police made attempts to disperse the crowd by spraying pepper spray and attacking protesters with truncheons, many decided to stay put and push back the attempts. Amongst the thousands of anti-racists in the area, a great number participated in one way or another in what the court claims to be riots. Out of these people, 15 were prosecuted and 13 sentenced to prison time.
By the preliminary investigation, it is clear that the Swedish Secret Police (SÄPO) has provided information on who, according to them, is an active anti-fascist. SÄPO cooperating with the prosecution in pinpointing a small number of people out of a very big mass can not be seen as anything else than a political stance. They seized the opportunity to lock up and guilt anti-fascists inconvenient to them, even though a large number of people participated in the protests in the same way as the sentenced.
Eight people were given 4 months of prison, two got 10 months and the remaining three were sentenced to 3, 8 and 18 months each. Two people were acquitted. On top of the prison time, the sentenced will also have to pay a large amount of fines to officers who, although being covered head to toe in protective gear, claims to have gained multiple injuries whilst attacking the crowd with the said intention of dispersing it. The total amount of fines adds up to about €38 000/£27 000, although it is currently not clear whether appeals will be made from either sides.
A notable coincidence is that the day of the sentencing, the 17th of November 2015, marks the 100th anniversary of Joe Hill’s execution. Then, as now, progressive class struggle was coupled with risk of tougher sentences if you were active and organised in working towards radical change. Then, as now, the solution was never to mourn when repression hit us, but to organise resistance and solidarity. We cannot equally share the prison time given out, but we can do so with the fines. That is why we yet again are launching a solidarity fund and encourage everyone to reach in to their pockets according to means.

Antifa Stockholm: 13 Antifaschist*innen zu Gefängnisstrafen verurteilt – Gemeinsam kämpfen gegen Repression
Am 21.11.15 erlebten wir die Verurteilung von 13 Antifaschist*innen für ihre Teilnahme an den Protesten gegen die mittlerweile aufgelöste Schwedenpartei im September 2014.
Die meisten Urteile beziehen sich auf die Teilnahme an einem Riot, wobei die Staatsanwaltschaft behauptet, es habe sich um zwei separate Ereignisse gehandelt, da sich ihrer Darstellung nach die Situation zwischenzeitlich beruhigt hätte. Dies erlaubte ihnen, die Leute für dieselbe Sache doppelt zu verurteilen und so für härtere Strafen und hörere Bußgelder zu plädieren.
Zwei Wochen vor den schwedischen Wahlen versammelten sich etwa 1.200 Menschen in Kungsträdgarden, im Zentrum von Stockholm gelegen, zum Protest. Als die Polizei – unter Einsatz von Pfefferspray und Knüppeln – versuchte die Menge zu zerstreuen, entschieden sich viele zu bleiben und die Angriffe zurückzuschlagen. Von den vielen tausend Antirassist*innen vor Ort partizipierten viele auf die eine oder andere Weise in dem, was das Gericht als „Riots“ ansieht. Aus dieser Menge wurden 15 Menschen angeklagt und 13 schließlich zu Haftstrafen verurteilt.
Die vorläufigen Untersuchungen machten deutlich, dass die Schwedische Geheimpolizei (SÄPO) Informationen darüber bereitstellte, wer in ihren Augen als „aktive“ Antifaschist*innen gelten sollten. Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Staatsanwaltschaft und Geheimpolizei, um eine kleine Gruppe herauszupicken, muss als politisches Verfahren gewertet werden. Obwohl eine große Zahl an Menschen genauso an den Riots teilnahm, nutzten sie die Gelegenheit, eine kleine Gruppe Antifaschist*innen zu beschuldigen und einzusperren.
Acht Menschen wurden zu 2 Monaten, zwei zu 10 Monaten und drei zu 3, 8 bzw. 18 Monaten Knast verurteilt. Zwei Personen wurden freigesprochen. Zusätzlich werden die Verurteilten eine große Summe an Entschädigungen an Polizist*innen zu zahlen haben. Obwohl diese von Kopf bis Fuß mit Protektoren ausgestattet waren, behaupten sie multiple Verletzungen erlitten zu haben, während sie die Masse angriffen, um sie zu zerstreuen. Insgesamt wird sich die Summe der Strafzahlungen auf etwa 38.000 Euro belaufen. Noch ist jedoch unklar, ob eine der beiden Seiten in Berufung gehen wird.
Ein witziger Zufall ist auch, dass der Tag der Verurteilung, der 12. November 2015, auch der 100. Jahrestag der Exekution von Joe Hill ist. Damals wie heute waren Klassenkämpfe verbunden mit der Gefahr härterer Strafen, wenn du für einen radikalen Wandel eingetreten bist. Damals wie heute ist es keine Lösung über staatliche Repression, die uns trifft, zu jammern, vielmehr müssen wir Widerstand und Solidarität organisieren. WIr können die Haftstrafen nicht gemeinsam absitzen, allerdings ist es möglich die Bußgelder gemeinsam zu tragen. Deshalb gründen wir einen Solidaritätsfonds und rufen alle auf, nach ihren Möglichkeiten ins Portemonnaie zu greifen.
