A unit of DIAS motorcycle police briefly came under attack outside Exarcheia this evening. Media reports state that the unit was in the area as an anarchist motoporeia against the extradition of five students to Italy was ending. A DIAS unit had briefly stopped on a street opposite the Polytechnic university when it was suddenly attacked by around twenty people with clubs and rocks. The police managed to retreat but with one cop going to hospital for light injuries. No arrests have been reported.
The DIAS unit has taken over the role of the disbanded DELTA motorcycle unit. DELTA was notorious for its aggression and violence and had clashed a number of times with motoporeias.
