Thessaloniki (Greece): Texts about the Public Power Corporation’s attempts to cut off Delta squat’s electricity supply
Since late July, Delta squat is being actively repressed by DEI (Public Power Corporation, PPC) that attempts to cut off the space’s electricity supply. The electric power company got the green light from the Alexandreio Technological Education Institute (ATEI) of Thessaloniki, which is the legal owner of the building (squatted for 5 years already).
This squat hosts an array of autonomous political projects that act aggressively towards the existing system of exploitation and try to contribute to individual and social liberation. CopyRiot is a self-organized printing infrastructure for the antagonist movement which aims to disseminate subversive discourse by all available means.
Clearly, every attack against Delta squat by whomsoever it comes (DEI – ATEI – the State) constitutes an attack on all active infrastructures involved in the squat and all those who are struggling. Therefore, our solidarity with Delta squat is more than obvious. We will fight anyone who’s moving aggressively against the squat and our struggles.

The State’s desire to suppress the squats and self-managed spaces, that are considered a threat and danger to its existence, has now been fulfilled by the Public Power Corporation and its intention to interrupt the power supply in the building of Delta squat.
It is no coincidence that this repressive strike in Thessaloniki took place after the recent invasion of cops in the anarchist hangout Nadir and Orfanotrofio squat, especially since there were no significant reactions after that operation. In other words, we’re experiencing the targeting of the anarchist movement and a widespread effort to take it down, especially during the summer, for obvious reasons.
Besides, the Public Power Corporation dares to sell a commodity that is essential for people’s survival and is willing to do everything to ensure the price. Being a state enterprise, it is able to understand that the cost of a squat’s electric bill debts is nothing compared to the cost of the State’s disorganization that any squat can primarily achieve. Because squats also host collectives that through self-management run buildings which some owners or state officials left blighted, and have turned them into bases of counter-information and, simultaneously, of active deeds for the destruction of all forms of Power and therefore of the State.
So, on the grounds that ‘the end justifies the means’, the State decided to interrupt the electricity supply, being under the illusion that this would interrupt the squat’s operation.

Thessaloniki: Delta squat evicted
At approximately 7.30am on Wednesday, September 12th, in Thessaloniki, at least five MAT anti-riot police squadrons and two jeeps with EKAM special suppressive antiterrorist units lined up outside the anarchist squat Delta and stormed the building soon thereafter.
Ten people were arrested inside the building and others who arrived in solidarity were detained on the street. Also, more solidaritarians who gathered near the squat were surrounded and cut off by the police.
The cops searched the multistory building (occupied since 2007) and confiscated numerous personal items of the squatters, including infrastructure such as computers and hard disks, but even cash. Moreover, the police have officially released a mute video footage with the invasion of special forces in the squat. Anti-riot squadrons surround the area where the building is located, and its front entrance is sealed off.
Those who had arrived in solidarity and were detained have all been released.
The ten comrades who were arrested inside the squat are still being held in the Thessaloniki police headquarters (GADTH); they are due to appear before prosecutor either later tonight or tomorrow (13/9). They are charged with misdemeanors (as far as we know till now).
An urgent anarchist assembly regarding the violent eviction of Delta squat took place from 1pm at the Polytechnic School of Thessaloniki, where nearly 100 people in solidarity, along with members of the squat’s collectivity, decided to make the following actions:
i) Counter-information PA’s gathering today, 12/9, in Kamara at 18.30, awaiting more information about the arrested comrades.
ii) Protest rally outside the Thessaloniki police headquarters at 21.00, in case the arrestees will still be held captive.
iii) Solidarity gathering at Thessaloniki courts on 13/9, if indeed the arrestees will appear before public prosecutor tomorrow.
iv) Next open assembly to organize solidarity actions on 13/9 at the Polytechnic School of Thessaloniki at 18.00.

Note that all proceeds from the live concert organized by the group BausMaus tonight, at 23.00, outside the Biology Faculty in Thessaloniki, will go towards legal expenses that will arise to defend prosecuted comrades after the repressive operation against Delta squat.

Making a statement about the eviction of the anarchist squat Delta in Thessaloniki, the minister of Public Order (police) Dendias claimed this took place following orders by the Greek PM Samaras himself. The operation saw tens of riot police and members of the suppressive antiterrorist unit (EKAM) storm the building in the early hours of September 12th.
The operation, very tellingly, took place at a moment when racist attacks by members of the Nazi party, Golden Dawn, have gained extensive publicity and condemned by many across the political spectrum. Storming an anarchist squat at this exact moment tries to give a message of two “extremes” (the Nazis and the anarchists) that the government is supposedly fighting against.

We all live in an economic politic system, tightly closed and illiberal, which defends with every way the interests of the bosses, every kind, of overhead.
On the other side of the scale, there are the oppressed, all who face daily the problem of survival. The biggest part of the society, a few hundred million, are on the limits of poverty, receives daily attack from the small class of the bosses, with their protectors of their wealth, their command applicators, the state and the authority. Especially the last years, with the new economic crisis invented by the bosses, which is nothing but an obvious restructuring and re-accumulation of wealth for their benefit, and an attempt of total control of every aspect of society, more and more people find themselves in a desperate situation and they decide to take their lives in their hands.
So they decide to create unmediated social structures, away from the coercive logic of capitalism and the relationships which defined by money.
As people who belong in anarchist and antiauthoritarian movement, we are against in every form of ownership and trade, economic relations. We support places and groups who act in self-organization, solidarity, antiierarchia and anticommercial. Such ventures are occupations, locals and social centers.
Delta squat is one of them, one open, social and political space with antiauthoritarian characteristics. Inside the squat operating openly , self-managed workshops (photography, stained glass, silk screening), groups of self-education, library, open gym, translation team, self-organized prinding, free dance lessons and playground for children, open political meetings and discussions, video projections, social meals and self-organized, anticommercial concerts. These events gather money, available for support radical struggles and other needs of the movement.
Delta squat, like many other political places, are part of a wide antiauthoritarian – anarchist movement, which operates competitive and hostile against the sociopolitical system and the fight for individual and social liberation and for this reason receives the non stop attack of state and power. Especially the last years we are witness of an orgy of repression against groups and places, not only in Greece but in the entire world.

The abandoned buildings, which belongs to the state or privately owned, in this period that society becomes poor, stand defiantly, when all around us there are so many people who lack the basic need of housing. We, as anarchists, we stand in solidarity with the efforts of people to squat places and their development in areas of life.
As our presence disturbs them, their goal is our extinction. From our side we will deny the accusations of the authorities and laugh with the machinations created against us.
A typical example is that the cops tried to charge us our permanent residence to Delta squat while we were declared permanent addresses of our homes.

Finally, while we consider not important to speak about the matter of body control, despite the denial and violent ablation of fingerprints, we would not ask from any authority to care about this issue. We just want to show that this is their democracy and they will find us against them forever.
