–Bristol: Magistrates’ court arson attack
North Avon magistrates court was closed yesterday after a fire that has now been described as an arson.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service were called at 3.28am Yesterday and found the porch and canopy area of the entrance ablaze.
The fire damaged the outside of the building on Kennedy Way, Yate. There are two magistrates and legal advisors at the court processing ‘non hearing’ work such as curfew variations, fines and warrants.

–Leicester: Three council maintenance vehicles damaged in arson attack
Arsonists targeted a council’s fleet of maintenance vehicles at one of its city depots.
They struck at a secure compound in Rushey Mead Park, in Harrison Road, Belgrave shortly after 4.30am today.
Leicester City Council, which owns the vehicles say the damage will cost an estimated £46,000 but said work will continue from tomorrow with the hire of replacement vehicles.
A counciller stated: “The damage has written off three vehicles, which will have to be replaced. There has also been some peripheral damage to buildings in the depot.”
–Lancaster: Construction vehicles targeted at M6 link
Construction vehicles are being targeted at M6 link road sites causing thousands of pounds of damage.
In what appears to be an orchestrated campaign, hydraulic hoses were cut on excavators and dumper trucks.
Other incidents include:
*Sand being put into tanks to contaminate the fuel
*Tyres being let down
*Damage to a temporary jetty in the River Lune
Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused at a site at Crossgills Farm, Lancaster.
Police said: “Eight vehicles, including excavators and dumper trucks, were damaged to the tune of thousands of pounds at the weekend.
“Tyres have also been let down and sand put into fuel tanks.
“
“We are keeping an open mind as to who is responsible, however the vandals have made a concerted effort to cause criminal damage by using bolt croppers to cut the rubber hoses.”

Thieves have stolen Jesus from his cross in the village of Wingfield, Wiltshire – and they even took the ‘nails’ too.
The statue of Jesus was stolen from a war memorial at a rural crossroads outside the village of Wingfield, between Trowbridge and Frome, just before the beginning of the festival to mark His disappearance into the desert for 40 days and nights.
The bronze statue went missing from the war memorial at some point in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The 40-inch tall statue was first erected in 1917 and is believed to be worth around £10,000. Three bronze bolts – not nails – which attached the statue to a wooden cross on the memorial were also taken.
–Grimsby: Thieves target overhead cables
There has been reported 23 incidents since last October where overhead power cables have been attacked at night.
And there have been an increasing number in the past six weeks, mainly in the north-east of the county.
“The consequences of this emerging crime type include loss of power to more than 2,000 customers and a total of 7,000 metres of copper conductor stolen”
“This has so far cost £110,000 in repairs. These 11,000 volt overhead cables appear to be becoming the most targeted asset to date, although the domestic household supply was also the subject of similar thefts prior to March this year.
“Recent incidents include locations at North Willingham, Limber, Owmby-by-Spital and Audleby Top. Offences have also taken place on the Wolds sector, including Ludford and Theddlethorpe.
“Trends suggest that the early hours between midnight and 5am on Wednesday and Friday mornings seem to be appearing as a crime pattern.”
–Bristol: Another car arson rampage
Arsonists set fire to 12 cars parked outside homes in Southmead at the weekend following eight similar incidents last month.
The incidents, which police believe are all linked, follow a spate of car fires in the same area in early April.
“With this 12, we are linking them together in a series around Southmead and potentially going in to Henbury.”
The police say, the attacks are being linked due to the methods, which cannot be revealed at this stage, and the time of night they took place.
“We have had similar crime spates in the summer months before in Southmead but what happened on Sunday was unprecedented.”
Police launched their helicopter in the hope of tracking the arsonists, but were hampered by the sheer number of fires and the activity on the ground.
Police have also delivered 2,000 letters to residents urging them to help with their investigation!

Borders & Dartford: Speed camera attacks continue
A speed camera has been set alight in the Borders – where there have been more than 20 attacks on the devices in the past decade.
The latest incident happened on the A68 at Newtown St Boswells at about 00:30 on Wednesday.
Firefighters were called to the scene and were able to put out the flames and isolate the power.
Speed cameras have regularly been set alight in the region, and were also subjected to a spate of attacks with a saw.
There is also a report of the same happening in Dartford as well, an arson which is reported to have taken place on A226 Dartford Road just before 3am on Saturday (APRIL 26).
