Update- Repression on the ZAD

These past 2 weeks there have been 8 trials related to the February 22nd demo in Nantes. This is a short summary of communiques put out by the legal team (carila-Comité Anti-Répression Issu de la Lutte Antiaéroport).

July 8th- S., a zadiste, is on trial for theft, refusing dna and fingerprints, participating in an armed group, and violence against the police. he has already spent 3 weeks in preventative detention. while the judges are deliberating, people start singing and chanting and the police use tear gas and hit the people inside the courthouse while the people outside bang on the windows. S. is convicted of theft and refusing dna and fingerprints and is taken away for a 4 month prison sentence.

July 11th- O. is convicted of destroying a travel agency, destroying public goods, and participating in an armed group. he is sentenced to 3 months in prison and has to pay 900 euros to the city of Nantes.

July 16th- G. is convicted, even though he has proof that he wasn’t in Nantes that day, and sentenced to 1 year in prison, and 6 months suspended sentence, forbidden from the region, forbidden to carry weapons, and has to pay 20,000 euros to another travel agency that was destroyed. He is also forced to find a job and be on parole for 3 years after he gets out of prison. Unfortunately for the justice system he disappeared during the deliberation and hasn’t been seen since.

July 18th- In the morning, the highway is blocked for a short period of time during rush hour and a banner hung in solidarity with the accused. 5 people have a trial, they are aquitted for “association of wrongdoers and intent to commit an armed assembly in front of the courthouse”, and for refusing dna and fingerprints and suspected theft, 3 people have 3 months suspended sentence each, and 2 people have 6 months suspended sentence.
