In November Islington Against Police Spies (IAPS) held a lively picket of London Metropolitan University in Holloway, launching our campaign to demand the sacking or resignation of Bob Lambert. Former police spy, Special Branch manipulator, abuser of women, agent provocateur, Lambert is now lecturing at London Met on policing and criminology.

As local residents we feel it is totally inappropriate for London Metropolitan to be employing a man with Lambert’s record in such a position; where he has influence and power over the lives of students, who may be young or vulnerable. Most particularly Lambert has shown he cannot be trusted not to abuse and lie to women.
Islington Against Police Spies have committed ourselves to holding events every month at least, to keep putting pressure on the University and raising awareness of Lambert’s past, until he is forced to leave London Met. We know this CAN be done – but it’s not necessarily going to be easy. Hopefully this campaign will get stronger until it’s irresistible. BUT WE NEED HELP – we call on anyone who thinks Bob Lambert should not be working in a supposedly progressive university to support our campaign.

Come down and join the picket on January 30th. The bigger and noisier our protest, the more notice London Met will have to take of us.

Angleterre : Campagne contre un ex-espion de la police
Une campagne a été lancée en Angleterre contre l’embauche de Bob Lambert au département de criminologie de la London Metropolitan University. Bob Lambert était un des chefs du Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) de la police. Créé en 1968 en réponse aux manifestations de masse contre la guerre du Vietnam, le SDS avait pour fonction de placer des espions à long terme dans les mouvements politiques au Royaume-Uni. Le SDS espionné les groupes anticapitaliste, anti-raciste, anti-guerre, et environnementaux.
Dans le cadre de ces opérations d’infiltration, des agents comme Bob Lambert, ont abusé des femmes en ayant des relations intimes et sexuelles, parfois de longues durées, pour leur soutirer des renseignements. Lambert a admis quatre relations de ce type entre 1983 et 1988, ayant même engendré un enfant avant de disparaître sans laisser de trace. Au moins neuf autres espions policiers ont été identifiés ces 20 dernières années, presque tous ont eu des avec des femmes dans le but de leur soutirer des informations. Dix femmes victimes de ces abus poursuivent la Metropolitan Police pour cette raison.
Lambert infiltrait particulièrement les organisations environnementales, de Greenpeace à des groupes radicaux. Il a animé une provocation qui a encouragé des militants à placer des engins incendiaires en 1987. Deux militants ont été emprisonnés suite à cela. Bob Lambert a ensuite été promu inspecteur-détective de la Direction générale spéciale, et est devenu superviseur des policiers infiltrés. Il est aussi impliqué dans un campagne secrète de la police pour discréditer en 1993 la famille de Steven Lawrence, victime d’un crime raciste, qui dénonçait l’absence d’enquête.
