Come and say no to racism! Let´s raise some noise with music, and noise – pots, pans, whistles, instruments and with our own voices to stop the racist speeches and actions. Let’s not be bystanders. It’s the reponsibility of each and every one of us to actively push for a Helsinki free of racism!

During the past few months, media coverage has followed the “refugee crisis” in Europe; thousands of people who have fled war, persecution and inhumane conditions have been seeking refuge in European countries, including Finland. In the current precarious climate caused by the economic crisis, however, this has triggered a surge of hate towards immigrants.
Racists, fascists and nazis in Europe and including Finland have turned their hatred also into action, for example: threats, arson attempts, stonings, and firework attacks.
Now, on saturday 24.10., the openly racist group Rajat Kiinni (Close the borders) is organizing their event, which is used to spread racist and fascist propaganda, in Narinkkatori square. One of the main organizers of the group has, among other things, announced the far right movement, Lapuan Liike, to be refounded. The Rajat Kiinni events are part of a wider racist movement and are clearing the way for racism both in the streets and in the cabinets of government. The growth of racist activity in the streets, for example in the form of demonstrations, is strengthening the racist atmosphere in society and making racist actions and violence normal. It is thus important, that people in Helsinki, and around Finland, come and show that racism is not welcome to our streets – now or ever!
The event is independent from political parties, but everyone who opposes racism and racist violence is welcome. Let´s also take care of each other. Come along and bring your friends! Freedom of movement belongs to everyone, let’s keep the borders open!
