Tanya Golan Mi nombre es Tanya Golán y tengo 20 años de edad. He decidido rechazar la reclutación a las FDI y vi un valor en hacerlo públicamente y sin tapujos. La decisión de unirse o no al ejército israelí es una decisión política que todo el mundo debería ser capaz de hacer por su propia cuenta. Protesto contra la ley que amenaza a jóvenes y adolescentes para unirse al ejército. No confío en la jerarquía autoritaria. El ejército es un brazo de la burguesía, el gobierno y la industria armamentística. Hay quienes se benefician del conflicto palestino-israelí y nunca dejarán de lado el control económico del West Bank en Occidente. Estos poderes han creado el racismo y la segregación. El gasto público en el ejército israelí (que también viene de los EE.UU.) tiende a crecer año por año a expensas de la educación, la salud y el bienestar, y sin embargo, no hay seguridad en el país -hay muchas amenazas públicas en Israel-. Supongo que, nuestro temor es explotado como una distracción para prevenir los pensamientos profundos sobre esta situación. No se puede construir una sociedad justa con base en la injusticia. Me niego a participar en un mecanismo racista, fascista, discriminatorio y opresivo. Me niego a participar en un órgano de poder que, durante décadas, ha mantenido a millones de personas sin derechos civiles. Por otro lado, hay personas como nosotros con las que compartimos las mismas necesidades. Ellos sólo quieren vivir sus vidas. Los arrestos, detenciones administrativas, el acoso por el ejército y los colonos judíos, la esclavitud asalariada, la ausencia de bienestar -no podemos estar seguros si les damos buenas razones para luchar-. El ejército, al igual que la escuela, es una institución que perfora la socialización. El objetivo principal de la escuela pública es integrar a la sociedad en una entidad monolítica, por lo que el principal objetivo ideológico de las FDI no es proteger a la gente, sino ser un crisol (argot israelí usado por el ejército como por las instituciones que fabrican a la gente) que mantiene el ethos vivo y hace que el pueblo se pierda en sí mismo, mientras que en la realidad sólo protege a la jerarquía. Es una institución con burócratas torpes, que tienen que ver solamente con cada uno de ellos y que no tienen preocupación por el mundo real y otros sectores que trabajan en verdaderos asuntos civiles. Este tipo de estructura está educando a la fresca juventud con una manera de pensar dogmática que perpetúa la relación jerárquica entre el opresor y el oprimido. Esta parte de la vida es la etapa final para entrar en la edad adulta, que en esta parte de la tierra se juega entre el río y el océano. Creo que la decisión de adherirse a una organización militar debe estar motivada por el deseo personal y el razonamiento. Claro que funciona, podemos tomar como ejemplo la Federación Democrática de Rojava. En un momento no tan lejano tal vez podamos aprender una o dos cosas de ellos. No tienen leyes de conscripción, pero sin embargo, poseen un porcentaje similar de reclutamiento para las YPG yYPJ como Israel lo tiene para las FDI. Si no hay deseo de proteger algo, probablemente ese algo no será protegido. Rechazo la idea a favor de unirse al ejército: prefiero el compañerismo, hallar un sentido en la vida, la experiencia, ayudar a la comunidad. Elijo no sacrificarme por dos años enteros de abusos, humillación y opresión para nada. No voy a usar el uniforme militar; no voy a contribuir a la presión al pueblo para unirse al ejército. Rechazar la conscripción no es una cosa sencilla, de todas formas, el objetivo es NO unirse al ejército. Por último, pero no menos importante, está la cuestión social de la justicia. El ejército y sus prácticas ponen en peligro el medio ambiente mediante el derrame de petróleo y aguas residuales; el derroche de armas y material de guerra lanzándolo al mar; la actividad militar en curso pone en peligro el equilibrio de la flora y la fauna. Todo lo anterior sucede sin la menor rendición de cuentas, tal y como el ejército hace con el gasto público. Alzar la voz, en cualquier situación es de gran ayuda. Invito a todos los que tiene una voz para alzarla conmigo. Evidentemente, las cosas malas suceden cuando la gente buena no hace algo.

ISRAEL: Tania Golan’s statement refusing military service
Tania Golan is an anarchist, a vegan, an activist in ecological struggles and a member of Ahdut-Wihdeh-Unity. C refuses to take part in the Zionist army. We publish her Declaration of refusal, which includes her reasoning and her social criticism.
Deciding to join or not to join the army is a political decision which everyone should be able to make on their own. I protest the law that threatens young teenagers into joining the army.
I have no trust in authoritarian hierarchy. The army is a hand of the bourgeoisie, the government and weapon manufactures. There are those who profit from Israeli-Palestinian conflict and will never let go of economic control over the West Bank. These powers have created racism and division. Government spending on the IDF (which also comes from the USA) tends to grow from year to year at the expense of education, healthcare and welfare; yet there is no security – there are many threats in Israel. I presume, our fear is exploited as a distraction and prevention of profound thought.
One can not build a just society based on injustice. I refuse to take part in a racist, fascist, discriminatory and oppressive organization. I refuse to take part in an organization which, for decades, holds millions without civilian rights.
On the other hand, there are people like us, with the same needs as us, who only want to live their lives. Arrests, administrative detentions, harassment by the army and Jewish settlers, wage slavery, no welfare — we cannot be safe if we give good reasons to fight us.
The army, just like school, is an institute that performs socialization. As the main objective of public school is to stitch together the society into a monolithic entity, so the main objective of the IDF is not to protect the people, but to be a melting pot (Israeli slang for the army as the institution which makes people the same) that keeps the ethos alive and makes people adore itself, while it actually protects only the hierarchy.
It is an institution with clumsy bureaucracy, sectors that deal only with each other and have no bearing on the real world, and other sectors dealing with civilian affairs. This kind of structure is educating fresh youth into a dogmatic way of thinking that perpetuates the hierarchic relationship between the oppressor and the oppressed. This part of life is the final stage in entering adulthood in this part of the earth, between the river and the sea.
I think that joining an organization should be motivated by personal desire and thought. It works, we can take as an example the Democratic Federation of Rojava, not so far away; perhaps we can learn a thing or two from them. They have no conscription laws, but, nonetheless, they have similar percentage of recruitment to the YPG and YPJ as Israel have to the IDF. If there is no desire to protect something, it probably should not be protected.
I reject the reasoning in favor of joining the army: companionship, direction in life, experience, helping the community. I choose not to sacrifice myself to two whole years of rattles, humiliation, and oppression for nothing. I will not wear military uniform, so I will not contribute to the public pressure to join the army. Refusing the conscription is not a simple thing, but neither is joining the army.
Last but not least, there is the social issue of justice. The army endangers the environment by spilling oil and sewage, getting rid of equipment by throwing it into the sea and ongoing activity which endangers the balance of flora and fauna. All of the above happens without the least amount of accountability, exactly as the army does with government spending.
Using your voice, in any situation, is great help, and I invite everyone who has a voice to use it.
Plainly, bad things happen when good people do nothing.
