MARCH FOR SOLIDARITY
+ Because we are in solidarity with refugees in need!
+ Because we fight against racism, sexism and homophobia!
+ Because we must show there’s no hatred in Leuven!
Recently there have emerged many wonderful new initiatives to help refugees in need. Some people collect vital materials and bring them to refugee camps, some people welcome families of refugees in their home and in September 20.000 people joined the ‘Refugees Welcome’ demonstration in Brussels. A survey of VRT performed in the period with the larges inflow of refugees shows that 88% of the Flemish population wants to provide asylum to refugees.
Unfortunately, in the past months (even years) we also see a frightening rise of far-right parties and racist violence. In France FN gains high scores on the elections, in Europe, for example Germany and the Netherlands, refugees and asylum centers get attacked on regular basis. On the one hand we see far-right ideas and practises become more acceptable, on the other hand we see the state, who feeds us the fear of our fellow man by the continuous threat of terrorism.
Opposite to this racist and right wing nonsence, we want to put our solidarity, solidarity with people fleeing from war and hunger or searching for a better life. Solidarity with people fighting racism and oppression, no charity, but solidarity from below, because we feel a kinship with everybody, regardless of origin, color or culture.
That’s why we gather on Thursday February 25th to express our feelings of commitment with our fellow man, to show we are not carried along with ideologies that sow hatred and disunity.
We start with a meeting at the Martelarenplein (Leuven trainstation) and we march through the centre. At the end point there will be soup as a benefit for refugee action groups and afterwards dj’s will provide some beats at Den Tube.

+ Omdat we solidair zijn met de vluchtelingen in nood !
+ Omdat we ons verzetten tegen racisme, seksisme en homofobie!
+ Omdat we moeten tonen dat er geen haat leeft in Leuven !
De afgelopen tijd zijn er prachtige initiatieven om vluchtelingen te helpen ontstaan in de samenleving. Er zijn mensen die broodnodige spullen inzamelen en deze naar vluchtelingenkampen brengen, er zijn mensen die vluchtelingen in hun eigen huis opvangen en in september liepen zeker 20.000 mensen mee in de ‘refugees welcome’-demonstratie in Brussel. Uit een peiling van de VRT in de periode met de grootste instroom blijkt dat 88% van de Vlamingen vluchtelingen asiel wil geven.
De voorbije maanden en jaren zien we echter ook een schrikwekkende opkomst van extreem-rechtse partijen en racistisch geweld. In Frankrijk haalt FN hoge scores bij de verkiezingen, over heel Europa, bijvoorbeeld in Duitsland en Nederland, worden regelmatig vluchtelingen en asielzoekerscentra aangevallen. Enerzijds zien we dat extreem-rechtse ideeën en praktijken aanvaardbaarder worden, anderzijds zien we de staat die, door de aanhoudende terreurdreiging, de angst voor onze medemens extra opklopt.
Tegenover deze racistische en rechtse onzin willen wij onze solidariteit plaatsen, solidariteit met mensen die vluchten van oorlog en honger of op zoek zijn naar een beter leven. Solidariteit met de mensen die zich verzetten tegen racisme en onderdrukking, geen liefdadigheid, maar solidariteit van onderop, omdat we ons verwant voelen met iedereen, ongeacht afkomst, kleur of cultuur.
Daarom komen wij samen op donderdag 25 februari om onze gevoelens van betrokkenheid met onze medemens te tonen, om te tonen dat wij ons niet laten inpakken door ideologieën die haat en verdeeldheid zaaien!
We beginnen met een samenkomst aan het martelarenplein (Leuven station), en gaan als mars door het centrum. Op het eindpunt zal soep zijn tvv vluchtelingen-actie-groepen en DJ’s zullen de avond afsluiten in Den Tube.
