Sabbing the Crawley and Horsham hunt

A report of some new year hunt sabbing from Brighton Hunt Sabs:

“The day started off with the hunt meeting at The Royal Oak in Wineham. Saboteurs waited at either end of the road to see which way the hunt went. When they did move off we drove in front of them until they went into the field. One group followed the hunt whilst the other group drove round to the other side. At this point we saw a group of four deer running away from the hunt. We quickly jumped out, sprayed citronella and revved the landrover’s engine at the spot where the deer crossed the road. This masks the scent of the deer so that the hounds won’t be able to follow them. About a month ago hounds on the Surrey Union Hunt rioted after a deer and then savaged it, we weren’t risk that happening again.

As the huntsman then rode past us he told the police that the spray irritates the hounds noses, which is complete rubbish. Sussex police have started sending the same cops out every week now so they actually understand what’s going on and just ignored the huntsman.

We didn’t have to call the hounds off at all for the rest of the day, we kept up with the hunt and they just kept running away. At a few points the hunt boys tried to stop us from getting over gates but they were pretty pathetic really. At one point they did try and escalate it but no saboteurs were hurt, the police split it up quickly and we were then back on the hunt pretty much immediately.

Overall it was an exhausting but very successful day.

New people are always welcome. As are donations.
