Pobladores del ejido Nueva Francia en el municipio de Escuintla, alertaron sobre las detenciones arbitrarias y amenazas que han sufrido por pronunciarse contra la empresa minera Obras y Proyectos Mazapa S. A. de C. V. que opera en la zona.
Luego de días de bloqueo –que concluyó la madrugada de este viernes- en el ejido donde opera la mina que extrae oro a cielo abierto, habitantes de tres ejidos denunciaron que han recibido amenazas para que no continúen pronunciándose contra la empresa, esto luego del aplazamiento del dictamen que emitiría la Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (Profepa), para determinar si la minera continuaría o no operando.
Este viernes, Francisco Bautista, Antonio Ovalle, Salvador Hernández Gutiérrez, Elmer Siu y Juan Díaz, viajaron a la capital para advertir sobre las represalias de las que han sido víctimas en las últimas horas.
Los hombres, enviaron un documento a la autoridad estatal con el fin de que entablar un diálogo para que la empresa minera detenga sus operaciones en el ejido Nueva Francia.
Y es que los pobladores se quejan de las constantes detonaciones que realiza la empresa, además de documentar que los árboles han sido talados, se han secado y han muerto peces a causa del agua contaminada por cianuro.
Mexico: Following Blockade, Anti-Mining Groups Threatened
Residents from Nueva Francia of the Escuintla municipality are alerting people of arbitrary detentions and threats they have suffered after announcing their opposition to the mining company Mazapa Projects and Works, SA of CV, which operates there.
After a blockade which lasted several days and ended at dawn on Friday, inhabitants of the area where open-cast gold mining occurs received threats demanding that they stop pronouncing themselves against the company; this occurs after the Federal Attorney of Environmental Protection (Profepa) adjourned their decision of whether or not the company will continue operating.
On Friday, Francisco Bautista, Antonio Ovalle, Salvador Hernández Gutiérrez, Elmer Siu, and Juan Díaz traveled to the capital to warn of the reprisals they have been victim to lately.
The men sent a document to a State authority with the aim of starting a dialogue on how to get the mining company to stop operations in Nueva Francia.
People have complained of the constant detonations since the company began mining and have documented the many trees which have been logged, as well as the fish that have died and dried due to the cyanide contamination n the water.
