Several hours left before the official start of the World Hockey Championship 2014 in Belarus. Event that was planned in 2009 during another political thaw between the West and Lukashenko was constantly criticized by human rights and political organizations for support of Lukashenko’s political regime. Many groups called national hockey teams to boycott the championship, however International Federation of Ice Hockey decided once again that sport is standing apart from politics and retained the right for hosting championship in Minsk. But it is impossible to keep sport business away from politics. For Lukashenko this championship is a unique way to legitimize Belarusian political system on behalf of tournament participants.

Fund-raising for Dzmitry Rezanovich

rezanovich

Anarchist Black Cross is starting to collect money for Dzmitry Rezanovich case. For now around 1 000 dollars were already paid to his lawyer, who after figuring out the political background of the case took twice more money for his work. The whole picture is not clear on amount of money that will be required for this case as there is a possibility of prosecution for Dzmitry in Belarus after deportation from Russia. It is also not clear how long will it take for Russian authorities to deport Dzmitry – for now 1 000 dollars is lawyer work for only one month. You can support Dzmitry through our paypal and bitcoin accounts. Please do notify us about your transaction so we can confirm it. This can be done in comments to this news or via email. Belarusian anarchist detained on Russian-Ukrainian border (Russia)

Anarchist from Gomel – Dzmitry Rezanovich – was detained on March 13-14 by Russian security forces when he tried to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border. He is now at one of the Kursk pre-trial facilities, relatives are not allowed to visit him. It’s not yet clear what was the reason for detention. He had the passport of his brother, but it looks like the special services were not interested in this misdemeanor, they allegedly suspect him of a conspiracy to launch an attack on Kursk nuclear power plant as well as participation in Maidan protests.

We think this story is connected with the Russian hysteria about possible war with the Ukraine and expected diversive acts from Ukrainian side.
