To support Kevin Olliff and Tyler Lang this day of action is called, with their 100% support.

February 19, is their court hearing. After months of motions, a court date has finally been set to hear arguments on Motion to Dismiss based on the Constitutionality of the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. This will be a landmark court battle for both activists and the US Constitution.

This hearing is especially historic because it is the first time a judge will be ruling on the portion of the AETA that makes it a crime to cause a loss of property/profit.

Arguments will be heard at 10am on February 19th, 2015 at 219 South Dearborn Street, Chicago Illinois.

All supporters wearing court-appropriate attire are encouraged to attend.

Tyler Lang was released from state custody in November 2013. He is currently out on bond awaiting trial on the federal charges.

ABOUT THE WEEK AND AETA

Global Week of Action Against the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act entails talks, workshops, film viewings, protests, etc. to educate the public about federal laws that specifically target animal advocates whose work attempts to stop a person or company from profiting from the use of nonhuman animals (which could include nearly all types of non-reformist activism, from protests to liberatory actions).

In effect, AETA labels activists as terrorists, a chilling reality that every activist of every cause should care about because this is a civil liberties and rights issue. AETA has been covered by almost every major paper in the US and is one of the most unconstitutional laws since COINTELPRO – a program established in the 1950s by the FBI that targeted the civil rights, anti-war, and Native American movements.

EXAMPLES OF EVENTS

The events can be small with two people or large with hundreds. You can do a potluck with a talk about the AETA, a meet-up at a cafe, hold a banner with two people in front of a federal building for an hour and take pictures, you can hold individual signs that say you are against the AETA or #AgainstTheAETA sign, you can show a film or have a panel lecture. Some other ideas include a banner drop off a bridge, protest in front of a court house, capitol or federal building, or a workshop/teachin-in on why dissent is not terrorism.
