You are invited to the 2nd Annual Resistance Ecology Conference in Portland, Oregon! The conference is booked at Portland State University for the weekend of June 27-29, 2014. We are now well into planning the weekend in collaboration with Student Animal Liberation Coalition. The second conference will be focused on pragmatic skills and ideas for animal activists looking to get involved in an intersectional movement. We are accepting workshop proposals on a wide range of topics and skill-sets.

The first conference (2013) was a huge success. We saw around 300 attendees, over 35 speakers and panelists, and over 30 workshops and panels. The conference covered a variety of issues and topics on building an intersectional movement for humans and nonhumans, the hurdles we face, and why we need to overcome them.

We are continuing our focus on the state of animal liberation and radical ecology, with a critical eye and an appetite for an intersectional approach. Our working theme for this conference is, “Moving from theory to action: Organizing a mass movement for humans, nonhumans, and their ecologies”. We really want to offer insight into your campaigns, your actions, and the activities in your community. Although we always will welcome room for critical analysis, our goal is to create tangible approaches to involvement and organizing. Our movements are beginning to organize national campaigns, mass actions, intersectional coalitions, and important local grassroots momentum. We want to report it, analyze it, and promote it.

So please, feel encouraged to attend, contribute to, promote and participate in the second Resistance Ecology Conference. If you have workshop ideas or suggestions, please let us know. We are open to all possibilities.

We look forward to seeing you there.

  1. Hi!
My name is Ruddy with Everglades Earth First! and the Global Justice Ecology Project. Back home we are working on a variety of issues and I would like to do a workshop on the growing threat of commercialization of Genetically Engineered Eucalyptus, Poplar and Pine trees and the impacts that could have on the SE and NW of the US. I would also like to table for EEF! and GJEP. Please let me know if that is possible and if there is a cost associated with any of these things.
