Freedom in the Mountains: Visiting the PKK in the Qandil Region
Over the past few months, Turkish media has reported repeatedly that hundreds of fighters have been killed during bombardments in the Qandil mountains, the stronghold of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, PKK. The Qandil region straddles the borders between Turkey, Iraq, and Iran. We cannot deny feeling uneasy, as the driver of our vehicle navigates the tight switchbacks on the way to the guerrilla.
But images of hideous bombardments are not strong enough to tear our attention away from the awe-inspiring landscape. The Qandil mountains are by far the most beautiful region I have ever seen. Two guerrilla fighters stop us briefly, greet us, and send us on our way. Between crystal-clear mountain streams, green forests, and magnificent peaks, we see images of Abdullah Öcalan and Sakine Cansiz.

In memory of our Insurrectionary Anarchist Compañero Mauricio Morales
Early morning in Santiago on 22 of May 2009 we lost our brother Mauricio Morales. He was carrying an explosive device which detonated in his back pack, he died on the spot. It is assumed that the disgusting institution of the school of the Gendarmerie was the aim of his attack. He died a fighter, without fear, without hesitation, confronting every form of power.
He decided to turn his hatred into action. He transformed his life into a constant struggle against the existent. Publications, direct support to imprisoned comrades, the spreading of anarchist and anti-authoritarian literature, the spreading of ideas were part of the daggers he sharpened during his life. In this way he wanted to contribute in different ways to the destruction of this society based on the logic of power and exploitation.
Remembering these moments our hearts fill with pain, but it is important not to fall into the lethargy that the loss of a comrade can lead to. We cannot forget that he died with his eyes fixed on his aim. And this fact must shake us, must help us to open our eyes.
We are at war, the strikes will be many, but that’s how it is for a fighter that doesn’t stop, doesn’t bow his head; that makes his life, among other things, a constant surmounting of obstacles.
The harshness of death strikes us and is such a whirlpool that sometimes we can barely believe what is happening. Death or prison is not only a slogan, today for us, those words are tattooed with blood and fire.

Two ruling SYRIZA offices attacked in Athens
Two offices of the ruling SYRIZA party in Athens were vandalized early Saturday morning by unknown assailants.
The first incident occurred on Himaras Street in Vyronas shortly after 2 a.m. when attackers smashed the windows of the party office and threw paint.
Shortly after, at 3.30 a.m., another group used a crowbar to cause damages to the entrance of a party office on Zinodotou Street in Pangrati.

Coming up: fight nazis in Dover (28 May) and Brighton (4 June)
Fascist scum are attempting get-togethers in the coming weeks in the seaside towns of Dover and Brighton. On Saturday 28, neonazis are planning not just another daytime stumble around Dover town, but also a Blood and Honour gig in the evening. The weekend after, on 4 June, there is a planned march by the “South Coast Resistance” in Brighton. See anti-fascist call-outs below for further details.
